PROCLAMATION BY THE GOVERNOR

TO THE PEOPLE OF KANSAS, GREETINGS:

WHEREAS, The state's archaeological resources are an important part of our heritage, representing the remains of many different activities by diverse cultural groups, starting with the arrival of the first Native Americans over 11,000 years ago and extending into the era of Euroamerican settlement; and

WHEREAS, Archaeological resources are an invaluable research tool for learning about past cultural groups, providing a unique source of information about the past, and serving as the primary means by which we learn about the prehistory of the state; and

WHEREAS, Archaeological resources are an irreplaceable, rapidly diminishing and increasingly endangered cultural resource, subject to destruction and loss by vandalism and our modern lifeways;

NOW, THEREFORE I, KATHLEEN SEBELIUS, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF KANSAS, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2004 as
